This promotional content for the second season of Netflix’s Russian Doll presented some unique challenges and creative opportunities. To create a fitting backdrop for the fabulous Natasha Lyonne’s introduction to season two, we had to build something special. The director’s concept is based on Joan of Arc’s quote, “Life is a series of kaleidoscopic moments.” To achieve this vision, we designed a multi-surface reflective set that could support the two-camera shoot. Reflections are usually something you avoid when creating content, but in this case, we embraced them. We designed the set to create a kaleidoscopic house of mirrors look for Natasha while avoiding the reflections of the camera, crew, and lights.
The vision was based around a quote from Joan of Arc who said “Life is a series of kaleidoscopic moments.” and to support this we designed a multi-surface reflective set that supported the two camera shoot.
Was it easy? Not at all. Did it turn out amazing? Absolutely.
